This all-day tour of the Monteverde Cloud Forest combines thrilling zipline adventures with the serene beauty of hanging bridges. We will pick you up early in the morning from your hotel and transport you to witness the landscape.

At Selvatura Park, you’ll start with a safety briefing before tackling the 15-cable zipline course, highlighted by the “Superman” cable that spans over half a mile and rises 590 feet above the ground.

The Tarzan Swing offers a wild ride if you are seeking extra excitement. A traditional Costa Rican lunch awaits you after ziplining before proceeding to the hanging bridges. These bridges, which span lengths of 150 to 510 feet and heights of 36 to 180 feet, provide a unique perspective of the forest’s canopy.

The day I took this tour, it was unusually hot, making it difficult to spot wildlife. However, our guide found two quetzals and a tarantula, even providing high-quality photos. The zipline was exhilarating, and thoughtful amenities, such as secure storage for belongings and practical advice on what to bring, enhanced the experience. Lunch at a local restaurant offered a taste of Costa Rican cuisine, with various options available.

However, the tour’s communication could be improved, particularly regarding the minimum participant requirement and the meeting point logistics, which initially caused some confusion. Nonetheless, the staff’s flexibility and efforts to accommodate pickup and drop-off locations near our hotel significantly improved our positive experience.

  • an exciting zipline course with a variety of cables and a Tarzan swing.
  • The guide’s expertise in wildlife spotting and providing high-quality photos.
  • Secure storage for personal items.
  • Flexibility in pickup and drop-off locations offers convenience and savings.

The first day involves a 5-hour hike, predominantly uphill, testing your stamina yet manageable with a good fitness level. Expect to navigate several river crossings, so bring along water-resistant shoes.

Your overnight stay is in a cabin lacking modern amenities like electricity and running water. You’ll need to embrace simplicity with a flashlight, use the outhouse, and refresh with a bucket shower. You’ll conclude this experience with a wholesome lunch, returning to the pier by 3 p.m. carrying a smile in your heart.

When I took this tour, the journey began with a delay as we awaited the arrival of another ship, resulting in a 2.5-hour wait. Despite the initial disappointment, the rainforest walk, highlighted by a knowledgeable guide in the butterfly area and a tasty local lunch, redeemed the day. The coffee tour offered fascinating insights and delightful tastings.

An unexpected bonus was a brief town tour near our cruise ship, adding a cultural layer to our experience. While on the pricier side, this ship-affiliated tour offered a rich tapestry of Costa Rican landscapes, from cloud-shrouded forests and uneven terrains to the country’s famed coffee culture.

  • Learning about coffee, chocolate, and sugar production was informative and enjoyable.
  • The lunch provided was delicious and showcased local cuisine.
  • The additional town tour near our cruise ship was an unexpected and pleasant surprise.

What I didn’t like:

  • The long 2.5-hour wait due to waiting for another ship was frustrating.
  • The tour was expensive, as it was a ship’s tour.
