5 Family-Friendly Parks in Hong Kong

  1. West Kowloon Art Park

West Kowloon Art Park

The West Kowloon Art Park is one of the best family-friendly parks in Hong Kong. It lies in the heart of the Cultural District and offers breathtaking views of the Victoria Harbour any time of the day. You can reach here by the MTR or the bus. MTR will be easier so you just have to exit from E4/E5 of MTR Kowloon Station and walk along the Nga Cheung road and cross the footbridge into the West Kowloon Cultural District. But a recommendation would be to visit the park in the evening so that your kids can enjoy cool breezes riding a bike, while you get to relax under the shades of the trees within the park. It will also be great at sunset if you are planning to take photographs. You can also have a picnic or play games in the open lawns. Then you can have a meal or two at one of the waterfront restaurants in the West Kowloon Art Park. There are a variety of events and activities too, starting from street performances to art exhibitions. The opening hours are 6.00 AM to 11.00 PM daily. After having your time in the park, you may feel tired or hungry. K11 Musea would be a great place for you to have a meal there. There are lots of restaurants with amazing sea views in this mall and you will definitely like it.

  1. Quarry Bay Park

Quarry Bay Park which lies in the Quarry Bay area of Hong Kong Island’s Eastern District is another place to spend some quality time with your family. It is located in between the waterfront and the Tai Koo Shing housing estate. Quarry Bay Park is easily accessible by public transport, specifically the MTR, you just have to exit at Taikoo Station Exit E1 or Quarry Bay Station Exit B1 to reach it. There is a children’s playground and a cycling path which is best to teach your kid to ride their first bike. This cycling path is a 640 meter enclosed loop. It is not very crowded, very safe and therefore, it is easier to go back and forth. While your children have their fun with bikes you can jog on the running path. The Hong Kong Velodrome Park is the largest in Hong Kong and it is suitable for families with kids of all ages because there are many activities here. It is located at 105-107 Po Hong Road, Tseun Kwan O. You can get to the park by the MTR; get down at Hang Hau MTR Station Exit B2 or Tseung Kwan O MTR Station Exit A1 to reach there. Velodrome Park is a beautifully landscaped area with green lawns, artificial lakes and also restaurants. There is a skatepark, children’s play areas, an amphitheatre, a jogging track, model boat pool, chess tables, a sport climbing wall and a fitness area as well. Therefore, it is the perfect place to interact with your kids, husband or wife white having a quality time. The opening hours are 24 hours daily for the children’s play areas but other facilities, it will be 8.00 AM to 10.00 PM daily.

  1. Dinosaur Park at Ping Shek Playground

Dinosaur Park at Ping Shek Playground is the only dinosaur-themed park in Hong Kong, and that makes it a must-visit for all those dinosaur lovers, be it, children or adults! It is located on a small hill in Choi Hung and accessible easily by the MRT. You just have to exit from Choi Hung MTR Station Exit A1, walk up the small hit through the Ping Shek Estate to reach the Dinosaur Park. It has some amazing features, pseudo archaic fossils, vibrantly coloured plants, rock climbing activities, cave exploring activities and also, a children’s play area designed for kids of all ages. You can also have a jog or a run at the jogging trail of the park while your children have fun at the park. The opening hours are 6.00 AM to 11.30 PM daily.

Tai Po Waterfront Park is the place to go if you want to see some panoramic views across Tolo Harbour and participate in many leisure-related activities at the same time. Tai Po Waterfront Park is located in Tai Po in the New Territories of Hong Kong and is easily accessible by a 30-minute walk from Tai Po Market MTR Station.

There are gardens, an insect house, sitting areas, a 1.2 km promenade along the harbour front, a jogging path, kite-flying areas, model boat pool, children’s play areas and an amphitheatre. The most famous attraction in the Tai Po Waterfront Park is the Spiral Lookout Tower. It is the place where British troops landed when taking over the New Territories of Hong Kong. The tower stands at a height of 32.4 metres and offers its visitors a panoramic view over Tolo Harbour, the Tai Po Industrial Estate and the surrounding areas. The opening hours are varying according to the attractions. The insect house is open from 8.00 AM to 7.00 PM daily, the Spiral Lookout Tower is open from 7.00 AM to 7.00 PM daily while the other park facilities are open for 24 hours daily.
