If you have ever been to Italy, you know that the love language of the country is food, wine, family, and friends. The same language is spoken here at Bacaro. There is a reason this is among the best restaurants in Grand Cayman and my visit did not dissappoint!
I visit the Cayman Islands a lot, and on Grand Cayman, there are a number of restaurants that use local ingredients and have amazing cocktails and views. However, there is only one Bacaro, which features classic Venetian flavours with a Caribbean flair.
The Heart and Soul of Bacaro
When you first arrive to Bacaro, you will soon realize that the service is exceptional. The restaurant is relaxed, yet elegant, and the menu is filled with fresh, delicious options. Here are some of my favorites:
Cichetti
Cichetti is Bacaro’s version of snacks, and they all pair wonderfully with drinks. I usually like to get them during happy hour when I’m not quite ready for a meal, but I want something to go with a drink. My favorites are gorgonzola and potato croquettes and the smoked fish pate.
Piccoli Piatti – Small Plates
When I want a little more food, and I am at the bar with friends or family, I definitely won’t skip on the small plates here. I love the little modern innovation the plates have, and when you mix that with the service, you really get an amazing experience.
There is always an amazing ceviche of the day, and of course you won’t go wrong with the variety of fresh seafood. If I could make a suggestion for people who want to check out the small plates at Bacaro, I would recommend the deep fried calamari, sautéed Brussels sprouts, or the tuna tartare.
Grandi – Sharables
Now we get to the best part — the sharables here at Bacaro. This is amazing food, and these dishes are perfect when you are with a group and looking for a tapas type of experience. I absolutely adore the Salumi e Formaggi Platter paired with wine, and you definitely can ensure you get an amazing meal when you order the grilled daily catch.
Desserts
Take the time to get dessert! This is my best advice! Not only are there delectable desserts such as passion fruit pannacotta and chocolate chip tiramisu, Bacaro also has amazing dessert cocktails. My favorite is the espresso martini!
Specials at Bacaro
The Bacaro menu also features specials including the Express Lunch, which is served from 11:30am to 3:00pm. This is fabulous when you want a good meal and amazing view, but you don’t have a lot of time in the middle of the day.
Happy hour is also a great time to visit. Available at the bar, the drinks are amazing, and you can walk right up. Reservations are not available for happy hour, and it is scheduled Monday through Saturday from 5:00pm – 7:00pm.
Sunday brunch is another favorite of mine. At Bacaro, Sunday brunch is a five course meal. If you want a drink with brunch, you can also get bottomless bubbles to toast your day.
