Top Five Best Marriott Hotels in Costa Rica

Marriott Hotels in Costa Rica

Let’s dive straight in. Of all the Marriott hotels I have visited in Costa Rica, these five come out on top- all for different reasons. One of the things I love the most about Marriott hotels is the sheer variety on offer, and how you can find something for every situation and vacation vibe.

In this guide, I will cover the must-know details, my personal experiences, and the top reasons why someone should choose each hotel for their stay.

W Costa Rica Reserva Conchal

W Costa Rica Reserva Conchal

Nestled amongst dense green exotic forests, the W Costa Rica Reserva Conchal is every bit the tropical oasis. A stone’s throw from the sugar-white sands of Brasilito Beach and Playa Conchal and less than a 10-minute drive from Tamarindo Airport, this luxury resort is one of my favorites of all time.

My first impressions on arrival were all about the views and surroundings. As an avid nature lover, I was bowled over by the immense beauty in every direction. Whoever designed the rooms clearly understood this appeal, making floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall sliding glass doors a winning feature in most of the suites.

The resort itself has one of the most unique and vibrant aesthetics of anywhere I have stayed in Costa Rica. Bold colors, materials, and layouts bring life and personality to the place, giving even more of a warming, welcoming, pura vida embrace to all who visit.

Why Pick This Marriott Hotel?

  • It is eccentric, vibrant, and unforgettable.
  • The large, spacious rooms are the epitome of luxury- and, oh my, those views!
  • You can explore nature and take part in a range of outdoor activities.
  • Amenities include a fantastic spa, water sports, several on-site restaurants, and a 24/7 bar scene.

I stayed here with a few friends, and it was perfect- but there were also many couples and some families. In my opinion, the atmosphere here was all about a relaxing getaway in paradise sprinkled with drinks, great dining, and a little exploration. If you want somewhere that feels a million miles away from the real world but has everything you need within reach, the W Costa Rica Reserva in Playa Conchal could be the one for you.

JW Marriott Guanacaste

JW Marriott Guanacaste

The JW Marriott Guanacaste resort is one of the classier establishments, and it feels high-end everywhere you turn. Located in one of the best spots in Guanacaste- complete with exclusive access to one of the best private beaches in the country, Playa Mansita- this resort & spa feels like a true retreat.

The exceptional spa is just one of the attractive features for vacationers who want to escape- you can also sip cocktails on the Hacienda-style beachfront, float in an outdoor pool, breathe in the nature around them, or visit the trendy nearby town of Tamarindo to let loose.

Why Pick This Marriott Hotel?

  • A classic, elegant design makes this hotel feel timelessly beautiful.
  • Rooms are large and spacious and feature many great amenities.
  • Beach lovers can tick off the most exclusive stretch in the country!
  • The spa is world-class.
  • There are plenty of high-quality dining options on-site.
  • Attentive and extensive guest service is a given here- you really do feel like royalty.
  • You can take part in many exciting activities suitable for everyone- including horseback riding, canoeing, diving, fishing, and windsurfing.
  • Babysitting services- need I say more?

I actually stayed here as part of a wedding party, and the hotel has its own curated wedding service. If you are looking for a place to get married, this package is pretty stunning. We traveled with the whole family (age range three years old to 74), and everyone found their little piece of happiness in the JW Marriott Guanacaste resort.

Fun and games for the kids, a vibrant social scene for the singles, private beach, romantic settings at every turn for couples, and activities and amenities to suit all ages. This was a Costa Rica vacation we won’t forget in a hurry.

Los Sueños Marriott Ocean Golf Resort

Los Sueños Marriott Ocean Golf Resort

The pristine ocean and beach of Playa Herradura on one side, the stunning natural beauty of Carara National Park on the other- oh, and the immaculate grounds of the Los Suenos Marriott all around you- this is one of my favorite Costa Rica hotels.

My stay at the Los Sueños Marriott was one of our more active Costa Rica vacations- not through pre-planning, but simply because the resort inspired us to get involved. I’m not sure if it was the glorious nature around us or the excellent range of to-dos provided in the vicinity, but we completely got on board with the adventurous, active side of this location.

Of course, R&R is a big part of all my Costa Rican visits. The options for pampering, lounging, and dining were equally varied and impressive- particularly the idyllic therapeutic spa and the ZOE restaurant (Fresh seafood overlooking Herradura Bay? Yes, please.)

Why Pick This Marriott Hotel?

  • Los Sueños has some of the highest service standards I have experienced in Costa Rica.
  • The grounds, rooms, and facilities are impeccably maintained.
  • There is plenty of entertainment available for children and adults.
  • A golf course and golf driving range sit on-site for easy access for guests.
  • It is well situated for multiple airports, with Juan Santamaría International Airport, Tambor Airport, and La Managua Airport all within 40 miles.

It may not surprise you to hear that this was actually my husband’s choice, but I am glad I signed off on it. Don’t be fooled by the golf resort title- it is far more than that. The golf club is merely another golden star on the list of reasons to love this hotel.

Tranquil, peaceful, comfortable, and with a fantastic selection of activities, amenities, and must-sees right on your doorstep- this is a perfect place for couples, friend groups, and families.

Westin Reserva Conchal

Westin Reserva Conchal

My next recommendation is the Westin Reserva Conchal– the only all-inclusive hotel on my list and the place that holds some of my fondest family vacation memories. Whatever your opinion of all inclusives may be, this resort is absolutely worth it.

As well as having a sparkling main swimming pool and a secondary pool that is every bit as good, there is also direct access to the Pacific Ocean just in front of the hotel via Playa Conchal Beach. You can take part in various water sports, including snorkeling and kayaking.

Little ones can have fun in the indoor play area when a much-needed sun break is required, while the adults can unwind in the spa, take a hotel class in the fitness center, or sip a world-class cocktail in one of the many comfortable lounge areas. The all-inclusive package is fantastic- with all-day dining in multiple restaurants, plenty of places to grab a refreshment, and no need to worry about the bill.

Why Pick This Marriott Hotel?

  • Nice different restaurants serve international cuisine- something to suit everyone.
  • There is a golf course right beside the hotel.
  • The spa offers a range of high-quality beauty treatments.
  • Rooms are generously sized with super comfy beds- with multiple options to suit families.
  • Every part of the resort is clean, well-maintained, and modern.
  • A huge outdoor pool keeps everyone refreshed all day.

Although we have only stayed here with the kids, we noticed many travelers visiting as couples, friends, or by themselves. It is a tranquil and relaxed enough resort to feel inviting and enjoyable for a range of guests. If anything, it is a less obvious family all-inclusive- or at least, it is not what first springs to mind when you hear the phrase.

Costa Rica Marriott Hotel San Jose

Costa Rica Marriott Hotel San Jose

Of all the places I have stayed in Costa Rica, this could be my favorite overall Marriott.

San Jose Airport, Juan Santamaría International Airport, and Tobias Bolanos International Airport are all nearby, so it is easy to get here from multiple routes. The whole experience of staying here starts before you even arrive, as the San Jose atmosphere oozes from every direction as you make your way to the hotel.

Costa Rica is not just about sand and sea- the culture and city lifestyles are every bit as magnificent. If you want to experience a little more of the famous Costa Rican Pura Vida mojo, San Jose is the place to be- and the Costa Rica Marriott Hotel Hacienda Belen is the place to stay.

Why Pick This Marriott Hotel?

  • Choose from five on-site restaurants- all of which serve delicious food, some local, some international.
  • The spa, wellness, and fitness center is fantastic.
  • There are many activities you can take part in right on the resort’s doorstep.
  • You can be in the heart of San Jose in no time at all to really make the most of the culture.
  • It is a great place to relax, unwind, and connect with your loved ones.
  • Get the tropical paradise feeling close to the city.
  • The guest service is phenomenal!

My short stays here have been with my husband- our mini romantic breaks, if you will. It was perfect every time, and I am yet to tire of the dramatically beautiful mountain views that take my breath away every time.

If you want to feel like a VIP in the hotel but experience the local life and culture right outside, this location is absolutely perfect.

—> Learn More About the San Jose Marriott

The Best Marriott in San Jose Costa Rica

The Costa Rica Marriott Hotel Hacienda Belen (the final entry on the list above) is my top pick for anyone who wants to be in San Jose. It feels like a remote tropical oasis retreat inside the walls and on the grounds, but Downtown San Jose is just a stone-throw away.

Of all the places I have stayed- Marriott hotels and the rest- the service here is the best. From the minute you arrive, you are treated with exceptional care and attention without it being in your face or overbearing. Marriott has perfected the luxury experience in the Hacienda Belen in San Jose.

Here is a little more information about this resort and why it gets such a glowing review from me and everyone else I know who has stayed here.

Hotel Features

  • Excellent fitness and activity options- including tennis courts, a golf course, and a great on-site gym
  • Fantastic food and drinks in a selection of restaurants and bars
  • Great room service
  • Personalized guest service from an exceptionally wonderful team
  • Option to bring your pets with you (on request only- additional charges apply)
  • A large outdoor pool
  • Close proximity to the city, bars, restaurants, shops, and various popular attractions.

Room Options

Room Options

We have stayed here a few times and tried several of the room options. There are quite a few choices available on the Marriott website, with a variety of bed types, max capacities, and extra services.

The two categories are guest rooms and executive guest rooms, and from there you can choose more options. An executive guest room is not really any different from a standard guest room, but it gives you access to the Executive Lounge. You can also choose to upgrade to the Concierge Lounge rooms.

You can choose from double, twin (two doubles- no single beds in sight), and king beds in all room types, with some offering private pool access, mountain views, or a balcony. It is worth picking a view overlooking the mountains with a balcony if you enjoy relaxing in the privacy of your own room and enjoying the beauty of the nature around you. There are also suite options- with either two double beds, one king bed, or the presidential suite. Some rooms are adapted for accessibility.

All the rooms are incredibly comfortable and decorated with light, airy décor that feels clean, relaxing, and stylish. There are large flat-screen TVs with premium channel access, air conditioning, tea and coffee facilities, and 24-hour room service in every room.

On-Site Amenities and Facilities

Here are some of the stand-out amenities and facilities in the hotel.

  • Free parking on-site
  • Tennis courts
  • BBQ facilities
  • Costa Rican coffee shop
  • Spa
  • Two swimming pools
  • Airport shuttle
  • Several restaurants and bars
  • Beautiful garden with stunning views of the mountains
  • Group gathering rooms, business spaces, and event areas
  • Wedding and event planners
  • Private cabanas
  • A separate kids’ pool

Nearby Amenities

If you want to get out and explore, there is plenty going on nearby.

  • Beautiful parks
  • The center of San Jose
  • Many restaurants, bars, and shops
  • Multiple museums and art galleries
  • The zoo
  • Braulio Carrillo National Park
  • Hard Rock Cafe San Jose
  • Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium
  • Plaza Momentum Lindora
  • Much more!

All in all, this is the perfect place to stay in San Jose. I enjoy it more each time I go and always find something new to explore or experience. Whether you go as a couple, with friends, on your own, or with family, you can expect top-tier service and endless enjoyment from the Costa Rica Marriott Hotel Hacienda Belen, San Jose.

Top Choices for Marriott All Inclusive Costa Rica

I have enjoyed many trips to Costa Rica solo, with friends, and as a couple, but being able to travel there with my family is on a different level. Taking my kids here is joyful and rewarding, but (and if you have traveled with your children anywhere, you will know this) it is also very- and I mean very- stressful at times.

All-inclusive is not usually my thing, but when you have youngsters with you, it is a game-changer. We have tried a few all-inclusive in Costa Rica now, but two really stand out for me and my family.

Westin Reserva Conchal

Westin Reserva Conchal Top Choice

As I already mentioned, we have enjoyed many wonderful family vacations in the Marriott Westin Reserva Conchal. This is not your classic all-inclusive resort with loud music and in-your-face entertainment- it is a classy, relaxing spot for all the family that happens to include all your food and drinks.

It is also a golf resort and spa, so the grown-ups have plenty to look forward to, not to mention the many great dining options and bars manned by creative and talented mixologists.

No need to feel bad about enjoying some me time- the on-site kids club is fantastic. Complete with games, activities, adventures, and much more, I wouldn’t mind checking myself in for a day! I particularly love the fact that the highly trained staff encourage exploration and weave the local culture into the expansive program. There are even qualified babysitters you can hire at an extra cost if you want to get away for an evening.

Speaking of extra costs, knowing what is and is not included is a must. All-inclusive is rarely a literal phrase, and there are some things you need to pay for. These include the spa, golf, and other external activities- as well as some of the fancy bottles of booze, take-away lunch boxes, and medical services.

The food and most of the drinks, however, are included- and the quality is exceptional. While we are not overly fussy, feeding a toddler is always a challenge, but we have never had an issue when staying at the Westin.

Rooms are spacious, comfortable, and clean- with various suite options and a possible upgrade to a Club room (a few extra bonuses, including private pool and lounge access and an outdoor tub!). Luxury and all-inclusive can go hand-in-hand, and as one of the best Marriott resorts in Costa Rica, this hotel proves that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Planet Hollywood Costa Rica

Planet Hollywood Costa Rica

Planet Hollywood is part of Marriott’s Autograph All-Inclusive Collection from Marriott Bonvoy Costa Rica- and it does not disappoint. We stayed here to try something different, and we found it to be an excellent choice for a fun and active all-inclusive getaway.

There is a bit more going on here than in the Westin, which could be a good or bad thing depending on what you look for in a vacation. I can tell you that the kids loved it- especially the themed entertainment and on-site activities.

This is still a Marriott, so tranquil relaxation and luxurious surroundings are a given. The hotel grounds are beautiful- with a large pool and pristine beach-front location. We also made great use of the spa and fitness areas and just about doubled our waistlines by spoiling ourselves on the spectacular all-inclusive food.

The usual extras were not included in the price, although we found that we had most of what we needed without having to take out the wallet. All the rooms are suites, with some offering Club Lounge access and either garden or ocean views.

Sadly, I didn’t have room on my list for the El Mangroove Autograph Collection, but not because it’s not worthy.  I posted a review of my recent stay at this amazing hotel in Playa Panama right here, and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you check it out.
