The Original Canopy Tour Monteverde Zipline

Duration: 2 hours, 3 minutes

Age range: 5–82 years

On this tour, you’ll have the chance to ride zip lines, rappel down to the forest floor, and swing through the jungle like Tarzan. Your guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you to a private reserve and adventure park near Monteverde. You’ll get to see both the cloud forest’s primary and secondary sections and witness its diverse life cycles up close.

You’ll start with a thrilling zipline ride over the canopy and a 150-foot rappel descent. Throughout the adventure, your guides will answer any questions about the local ecosystem. Before you know it, the tour will end, leaving you with unforgettable memories of an incredible adventure.

The Original Canopy Company provided a more personal and tranquil experience, perfect for our group of four. With two professional guides, we began our adventure by walking along a trail leading to the thrilling Tarzan swing, a must-try but nerve-wracking experience. The highlight was undoubtedly the 800-meter zip line, offering breathtaking views across the valley.

We also enjoyed an abseil and tree climb, all conducted with the utmost safety by the attentive guides. Automatic brakes on the lines added an extra layer of reassurance. Ultimately, purchasing the photos was a fitting tip for the excellent guides. We highly recommend this company for an unparalleled zip-lining adventure, especially for families.

Booking for 11 a.m. proved ideal; we avoided larger groups, ensuring pleasant weather. While perfect for thrill-seekers and nature lovers, if you fear heights, you should reconsider, as the platforms are high and lack railings. Despite this, the stunning views from the long zip lines made any anxiety worthwhile.

Though the staff’s engagement was lacking compared to other tours in Costa Rica, the experience was still enjoyable and memorable. I advise bringing bug spray to prevent the unfortunate chigger bites we suffered.

Additionally, while the Original Canopy Tour is family-friendly, I had some safety concerns, as the platform harnesses seemed old. I had also heard from some locals that there had been accidents over the years.

What I liked:

  • The Original Canopy Company creates a personal and tranquil atmosphere.
  • I was impressed by the professionalism and fun attitude of the guides.
  • The thrilling Tarzan swing experience.
  • The breathtaking views from the 800-meter zip line are truly breathtaking.

What I didn’t like:

  • The height and lack of railings on the platforms made me feel uneasy.
  • I am experiencing chigger bites as a result of forgetting to apply bug spray.
  • I had safety concerns regarding the age and stability of the platforms and harnesses, especially after learning about past accidents.

The 100% Aventura Zipline Tour offers a comprehensive rainforest adventure package in San Bosco, a short drive from Monteverde. Upon booking, you’ll receive detailed driving instructions via email. This action-packed tour includes a 10-cable zipline course, a rope bridge, rappelling, an ATV buggy ride, and thrilling activities like the Tarzan Swing and the Superman zipline, one of Latin America’s longest and highest.

Your day begins with hotel pickup in Monteverde, followed by a safety briefing and gear check at the park. You’ll soar down 10 ziplines, watching for wildlife below, before experiencing the exhilarating Superman-style zipline. Other highlights include an ATV buggy ride, a hanging rope bridge, and a tree rappel. The Mega Tarzan Swing provides a stomach-dropping finale before returning to your hotel.

Note that this park is suitable for older kids aged 10 and up, with younger children requiring adult supervision. Weight restrictions apply to certain activities. You can skip certain activities, such as the Tarzan Swing, if you find them intimidating. Safety is emphasized throughout the tour.

While the Superman zip-line position added a unique twist, I found it uncomfortable. I recommend going for the traditional sitting position. Additionally, the abrupt stop on the first zip line caused momentary discomfort during my ziplining. The website advertised a 2-hour tour, yet our entire experience spanned only 1 hour and 30 minutes, leaving us disappointed.

What I liked:

  • You can enjoy the convenience of booking online and receiving driving instructions via email.
  • The various activities offered include ziplining, rope bridge, rappelling, an ATV ride, Tarzan Swing, and Superman zipline.
  • The breathtaking views and adrenaline rush from the long zipline and Tarzan Swing are truly breathtaking.
  • The emphasis is on safety throughout the adventure.

  • I experienced some discomfort during the first zip line due to harness issues.
  • The abrupt stop on the first zip line caused some discomfort for me.

Selvatura Park Canopy Tour

Meeting point: Selvatura Adventure Park, Provincia de Puntarenas, Tilarán, Costa Rica

Located at the highest elevation point in Monteverde, Selvatura Park provides a thrilling canopy tour experience, showcasing the remarkable beauty of the cloud forest. After booking online, you’ll receive driving instructions or the option for complimentary transportation from your hotel.

As you embark on this high-flying adventure, you’ll soar through the misty rainforest canopy on 15 zipline cables, some of the longest in Costa Rica. The giant Tarzan Swing adds an extra dose of excitement to the experience.

When we took this tour, we opted for the all-inclusive package and enjoyed a full day of adventure at Selvatura Park. The ziplining experience was exceptional, offering a unique perspective of the rainforest. The reptile house, butterfly garden, and sloth encounters provided opportunities to see various animals up close. The hanging bridges offered a tranquil way to admire the forest scenery after the adrenaline rush of ziplining.

While not the cheapest option in Costa Rica, the experience was undoubtedly worth it, with miles of ziplines, a Tarzan swing, and even a Superman option. Despite the crowds during our visit, the lines moved quickly, ensuring minimal wait times for each zipline. However, navigating between ziplines with equipment strapped tightly around the waist was strenuous, especially for the Superman option, and the place was quite crowded.

What I liked:

  • The opportunity to see various animals up close in the reptile house, butterfly garden, and sloth encounters is truly unforgettable.
  • The hotel offers convenient transportation options, including complimentary pickup from the hotel.

What I didn’t like:

  • The crowds during the week, especially at the beginning and end of the zipline course, resulted in longer wait times.
  • strenuous walks between zip lines, particularly when carrying equipment that is tightly strapped around the waist.

Duration: 5 hours.

Age range: 7–70 years

Google map

On this 5-hour tour from Monteverde, I had an incredible experience soaring through the treetops on a thrilling zipline course, braving the Tarzan Swing, and spotting wildlife in the cloud forest while walking the hanging bridges. The hotel pickup and drop-off included in the package made the excursion convenient and hassle-free.

The zipline tour offered a unique perspective of the cloud forest canopy, and the guides were skilled and encouraging, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience. Walking through the suspension bridges on my own was peaceful and allowed me to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings.

Unfortunately, our canopy group was large, causing us to miss the last tour of the Butterfly Gardens. I wish I had known about this, so I could have arrived earlier and not missed out on this attraction. Additionally, it would have been helpful if the company had also provided pickup from hostels, as they only offer hotel pick-up, and I had to request this service.

What I liked:

  • The guides were skilled and encouraging, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • Walking through the suspension bridges on my own was peaceful and allowed me to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings.

What I didn’t like:

  • Our large canopy group caused us to miss the last tour of the Butterfly Gardens, which was disappointing.
  • Pickup was only available from hotels, not hostels, so a special request was required for this service.

Meeting place: Sky Adventures Monteverde Park, Provincia de Guanacaste, Tilarán, Costa Rica

Cost: from $156 per adult

The Cloud Forest’s rich biodiversity was evident during our tour. We had sightings of snakes, tarantulas, and sloths during our family’s enjoyable experience. While the bungee jump was daunting for our younger child, they were glad to have tried it afterwards.

Ideal for families, I recommend you opt for the early Sky Walk tour to observe more wildlife activity. Although there may be slight delays in starting, the suspension bridges offer a unique experience. The Sky Tram may seem brief, but it’s worthwhile when combined with zip lining, which is well-regulated for safety.

What I liked:

  • The informative and insightful guided Sky Walk tour highlights the cloud forest’s diverse flora and fauna.
  • With varied lengths and heights, the thrilling zip-lining experience on the Sky Trek provides an adrenaline rush.
  • Observing wildlife, including snakes, tarantulas, and sloths, adds to the adventure.
  • The convenience of hotel pickup and drop-off makes the tour hassle-free for families.
  • The breathtaking views from the gondola ride and observation towers offer panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscapes.

What I didn’t like:

  • Despite specific arrival times, the slight delays in starting the tours may disrupt the schedule.
  • The relatively short duration of the Sky Tram ride may not justify its cost compared to other activities.
