Eager to make the most of my experience, I delved into extensive research to uncover the finest ziplining adventures available in the region and embarked on a series of thrilling ziplining tours.

Key Takeaways

  • The Costa Rica Monkey Jungle Zipline from Tamarindo primarily focuses on ziplining, while other tours offer a combination of other activities.
  • If you are not in great physical shape, you should avoid the ATV and Canopy Zipline Tour from Tamarindo because the journey is quite challenging and long.
  • The Tamarindo Zip Line and ATV/Buggy Private Combo Tour is a fun and affordable family activity. Your whole family will enjoy the tour, and it’s not too challenging.
  • The Combo Zip Line Tour and River Rafting from Guanacaste are also not the best choices for kids, but they’re great choices for adrenaline junkies.

In the rest of this article, I will outline some of the best ziplining tours in Tamarindo based on my firsthand experience. I will detail each tour’s itinerary and cost, highlight what impressed me about them, and also discuss any drawbacks I encountered.

This tour offers a ziplining experience through Tamarindo’s lush tropical forest, accompanied by a knowledgeable guide who points out various wildlife species along the way. Safety gear is provided for you.

This tour features seven zip lines; you can choose your speed and landings while on the lines. The friendly and attentive crew enhances the overall experience, making it enjoyable and memorable. Additionally, the tour is conveniently located close to town.

I chose this tour specifically because it focused on ziplining, and I received a warm welcome upon arrival. The guides were highly experienced and provided thorough instructions while maintaining a fun and engaging atmosphere throughout the tour. Their knowledge of the area and wildlife sightings added to the adventure. My group and I enjoyed refreshing cold water and delicious pineapple upon our return to the base.

One minor drawback is that when I book through Trip Advisor, details about transportation are unclear. It’s advisable to plan and confirm transportation options, especially if you don’t have access to a car, as the tour is approximately fifteen minutes outside of Tamarindo, and shuttle services may not always be available. Additionally, some parts of the tour involved strenuous climbing, including ladders. However, participants of all ages, ranging from 7 years old to 60, were able to participate comfortably with proper preparation.

While this tour may not offer as many zipline drops as others, its unique features, attentive staff, and picturesque setting make it a worthwhile experience.

What I liked:

  • The knowledgeable guides pointed out various wildlife species.
  • The convenience of the tour’s close proximity to town is greatly appreciated.
  • At the conclusion of the tour, we received delicious pineapple and refreshing cold water.

What I didn’t like:

  • There is a lack of clear transportation details when booking through TripAdvisor.
  • Some parts of the tour involved strenuous climbing.

ATV Zipline Tour from Tamarindo or Flamingo

Meeting point: Multiple pickup locations from all hotels, condos, and private residences in Tamarindo, Grande, Flamingo/Potrero, Conchal, and Brasilito

Cost: $145 per adult.

Duration: 3 hours, 30 minutes

Age: 5–99 years

This 3-hour, 30-minute ATV zipline combo offers you an exploration of Costa Rica’s natural beauty. The tour begins with a brief ATV safety instruction; you’ll journey through the dry forest mountains and quaint towns of the Guanacaste region, encountering local wildlife like Howler monkeys and exotic birds.

Once you reach the Monkey Jungle zipline, you’ll don harnesses and soar through the treetops on seven exhilarating zipline cables, enjoying breathtaking tropical forest views.

After that, an ATV will transport you back to your hotel from the starting point. ATV drivers must be at least 16 years old, while children aged 5 and above can ride as passengers. We provide complimentary pick-up from various locations.

They picked me up from the Margaritaville resort and took me to the ATV facility, “506 Transfers,” where my group watched a video on ATV safety and received instructions. We then proceeded to Black Stallion Eco Park, where Alex greeted us with fresh fruits. The zipline guides were knowledgeable, helpful, and entertaining, enhancing the ziplining experience.

Despite rainy conditions, the ziplining adventure remained thrilling and safe. After the ziplining experience, we headed back to the ATV facility and received a ride back to the resort.

We prioritized safety, even though the ATV portion primarily involved traversing back roads to reach the zipline location. However, if you are seeking a more adventurous trail ride, this aspect may be underwhelming. Nonetheless, the ziplining offered stunning vistas, making it a highly recommended experience.

What I liked:

  • The ziplining adventure at Monkey Jungle provided breathtaking views of the tropical forest.
  • The zipline guides were knowledgeable, helpful, and entertaining.
  • The side-by-side ATV option provided added comfort during the ride.

What I didn’t like:

  • The ATV portion mainly involved traversing back roads to reach the zipline location, which may be disappointing if you seek a more adventurous trail ride.

This tour takes you on a full-day adventure exploring the foothills of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. You’ll kick off your day with an adrenaline-pumping canopy tour, soaring through the treetops on high-speed zip lines, experiencing the thrill of a Tarzan Swing, and testing your skills on a climbing wall.

Next, you’ll hop onto a tube and float down the Rio Colorado for an exhilarating 1.5-hour ride. After working up an appetite, indulge in a traditional Costa Rican lunch at the ranch, refueling for the next leg of your journey.

Following lunch, you’ll saddle up for a scenic horseback ride through the lush forest, soaking in the sights and sounds of the natural surroundings. Finally, wind down with a relaxing mud wrap and a soak in the soothing hot springs, rejuvenating your body and mind after a day of adventure.

While thoroughly enjoying the tour, I felt somewhat rushed through some activities, leaving little time to appreciate the surrounding scenery. Nevertheless, the guide was friendly and attentive, providing water and towels throughout the day. The highlight for me was undoubtedly the incredible lunch.

The tour is perfect for families, offering a fun-filled day of adventure. The zip lines provided breathtaking views, while the river float offered excitement with its rapids. The volcanic mud experience, though stinky, was refreshing, and the hot springs provided soothing relaxation.

What I liked:

  • The thrilling canopy tour with zip lines and a Tarzan swing was exciting.
  • The traditional Costa Rican lunch at the ranch was a delicacy.
  • The scenic horseback ride through the lush forest was tranquil.
  • The relaxing mud wrap and hot spring soak were rejuvenating.

This tour takes you on an exciting Zipline and Hanging Bridges Combo Tour in the enchanting Monteverde Cloud Forest, offering a full-day adventure amidst the misty canopy. Your journey begins with an early morning pickup, maximizing your time to enjoy the day. As you start your 3.5-hour journey inland to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve,

Arriving at the Selvatura Park adventure base, you’ll receive a thorough safety briefing and equipment orientation before diving into your first activity. You get into a safety harness for the zipline tour and launch from treetop platforms, soaring through the misty forest canopy. You can explore 15 different cables of varying lengths, including the impressive ‘Superman’ cable stretching over half a mile long and towering 590 feet above the forest floor.

After the tour includes a refreshing lunch break, immerse yourself in the tranquility of the hanging bridges adventure. Additionally, you will traverse eight suspended bridges, providing an aerial perspective of Monteverde’s treetop life.

After completing both adventures, you’ll descend back to the forest floor and relax on the return drive to the Pacific coast, where the 12-hour tour concludes with an evening drop-off at your hotel.

Despite the long car ride (3 and a half hours each way) to get to the location, the ziplining and hanging bridges were incredible. The guide was knowledgeable about Costa Rican culture and the ecosystem. I recommend bringing a rain jacket and long pants, as it can be cold and rainy despite being hot at the resort in Guanacaste.

However, they felt the tour was overpriced. While the ziplining was incredible, the hanging bridges were considered just okay. The staff was helpful, and the organization was excellent, but the road up to the location was treacherous. The challenging uphill walks between activities were also difficult for the older tourists in my group.

Overall, this tour may not be suitable for those not in top-notch physical shape, as the journey is long and challenging. Due to the physical demands, I don’t recommend it for families or older couples.

What I liked:

  • In the Monteverde Cloud Forest, ziplining and hanging bridges were thrilling experiences.
  • The guide was knowledgeable and made the tour enjoyable.
  • The tour provided safety briefings and equipment, ensuring a secure adventure.
  • The ziplining offered stunning views, especially on the ‘Superman’ cable.
  • The lunch was delicious and satisfying.

What I didn’t like:

  • The tour was overpriced.
  • The road to the location was treacherous, making the journey uncomfortable.
  • Those who are not in excellent physical shape should avoid it because the journey is lengthy and demanding.

On this full-day tour from Tamarindo, I explored the foothills of Rincon de la Vieja National Park, combining horseback riding, ziplining, and relaxing thermal hot springs for the ultimate jungle experience.

Starting the day with scenic horseback riding trails, my group went to ten thrilling zip lines, soaring above a river and through the lush forest canopy. Lunch on site was a treat, and I couldn’t resist launching down a 1,706-foot waterslide for an extra adrenaline rush before indulging in a volcanic mud bath and soaking in Vandara’s hot springs.

The Rincon de la Vieja Volcano’s backdrop added to the day’s beauty, and the attentive staff prioritized safety. Highlights included the hot springs experience and the incredibly delicious lunch. While the zip lines were fun, I wish we could have spotted more wildlife.

As luck would have it, we were the only two who booked that day, giving us a personal experience without any issues. The shuttle service was punctual, picking us up on time for our adventure.

The downside is that there were a lot of safety concerns during this tour and many opportunities for things to go wrong; thankfully, nothing did. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, I am hesitant to repeat this tour due to the need for numerous safety measures.

What I liked:

  • Ziplining through the lush forest canopy was an adrenaline-pumping experience.
  • Enjoying a delicious lunch on-site and launching a thrilling waterslide added to the excitement.
  • A personalized experience with just two participants made the day even more special.
  • The punctual shuttle service made transportation hassle-free and convenient.

What I didn’t like:

  • I wish we could have spotted more wildlife during the ziplining adventure.
  • Some safety concerns arose throughout the activities, requiring extra mindfulness.

Cost: $125 per adult.

Duration: 2 hours, 30 minutes

You’ll have the opportunity to experience the thrill of ziplining through treetops and riding an ATV in the lush jungle, all conveniently organized for you within a single excursion. Plus, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy as you please, with all fees included, so there’s no need to carry extra cash. We provide everything, from the activities to the gear.

The day began with a pickup in Tamarindo, where the guides, who were helpful and very friendly, took me to the ATV starting point. The equipment provided was clean and well-maintained. Our tour with Mike took us through the back trails, and we even got to spot some monkeys along the way.

Arriving at Black Stallion Eco-Park for ziplining was another highlight of the day. The staff were exceptional, prioritizing safety while ensuring we had a memorable experience. Their patience and attention to safety truly made the adventure even more enjoyable.

This tour was great value for families, offering an affordable and enjoyable adventure. During my experience, our group embarked on an ATV tour to the zipline at Black Stallion, where we rode ten different lines.

Adult travelers can drive themselves, while families with kids can pair up on double ATVs or 2-seater buggies. It’s worth noting that a minimum of two ATVs or one buggy is required for the tour to run smoothly.

One downside, however, was that the pick-up was about 30 minutes late without any prior communication from the company. Despite that, the tour itself was a blast.

What I liked:

  • All fees are included; there is no need for extra cash.
  • Thrilling ziplining and ATV experiences were enjoyable.
  • It is an affordable adventure, especially for families.
  • Clean equipment for the ATV tour.
  • Spotting monkeys during the ATV tour was exciting.
  • Great and polite staff are available.

What I didn’t like:

  • Late pickup without prior communication.

Combo Zip Line Tour and River Rafting from Guanacaste

Meeting point: your hotel’s main reception area.

Cost: $160 per adult.

Duration: 7 hours.

This tour offers round-trip transportation from your hotel, a bilingual tour guide, and a thrilling lineup of activities, including zip lining, rappelling, rock wall climbing, river rafting class II, and lunch.

You’ll start your day with high-speed zip lines, hanging bridges, a climbing wall, and observation platforms offering breathtaking views of the dramatic canyon. After lunch, you’ll tackle the mighty Colorado River’s class II and III rapids as you navigate downstream on a water tube.

I must say, this tour is full of adrenaline! I was exhausted when I returned to my resort, barely leaving my room, but it was worth it. The activities are nonstop and exhilarating. We began with zip lining, which was easier and less scary than I anticipated yet still incredibly fun. Next up was the white water tubing, where we encountered waterfalls and rocks to navigate, but the tour guides were helpful and guided us through safely.

My group embarked on the horseback riding portion of the tour, which was a cool experience, although we ended it early due to the abundance of bugs. Our guide even stopped by a souvenir shop on the way back and suggested we try a mud bath.

For the white water tubing, I highly recommend bringing water shoes, and don’t forget bug spray, towels, sunscreen, and some cash for gratuities and souvenirs. Just be aware that if you are scared easily or have any heart issues, you may want to avoid this tour.

What I liked:

  • The tour package covered everything from transportation to thrilling activities like zip-lining and river rafting.
  • The included lunch was satisfying and gave us a break during the tour.
  • Whitewater tubing was thrilling, and the guides helped us navigate safely.

What I didn’t like:

  • This product is not recommended for people who have any form of heart issues, nor for children.

The presence of a biologist from Buena Vista as the guide provided valuable insights into the local ecosystem, adding depth to our exploration.
