Cafe 191 Review

Located along Gallatin Road (Rt 191), just around the corner from Lone Mountain Trail, Cafe 191 is a place where local legends are made. I had heard about the great food and the locally sourced ingredients, and friends told me I couldn’t miss the amazing breakfast options. Since I was in the Big Sky area, I knew I wanted to try this as it’s one of Big Sky’s popular dining options. I had checked it out on Facebook, and the photos in the reviews looked amazing. So, the last time I was in Big Sky, I made a stop. Was it as good as I thought it would be? Let’s find out.

Café 191 Reviews

When I was in town, we decided to stop by after a long hike at nearby Lava Lake as we ran into this venue on the way back to Big Sky. The menu wasn’t huge, but it had everything I needed to create my perfect breakfast – an omelet. Our server recommended the Cafe 191 omelet, which is a local specialty, I quickly saw why. It was delicious. Served with hash browns or tater tots, which is what I ordered, as well as toast, it was the perfect fuel for a day of hitting the slopes. You don’t have to take my word for it, though. Overall, people tend to enjoy Cafe 191.

He also recommended the Bison Chili and although it was more of a breakfast vibe for us, they told us it was ready and we split a bowl of it. It was incredible and as advertised – we’d come back for this!

On TripAdvisor, Cafe 191 has a 4.4-star rating. People tend to love the way they cook the French toast and country-fried steak. Reviewers note the friendly staff and cozy ambiance. Some people commented on the delicious mimosa’s, too, which is a great way to start your day. There were a few negative reviews mentioning high prices and poor service, but most reviews were written in a positive way. One reviewer even said the food was so good, he wanted the recipe.

The Yelp reviews have similar sentiments. The people there talk about the relaxed atmosphere, the good service, and delicious meals. A few mentioned long wait times, poor or slow service, and high prices per dish, but overall, reviews are decent with 3.9/5 stars.

Café 191 Menu

Cafe 191 is open for breakfast and lunch. It closes each day at 3:00pm, but you will quickly learn that there are extensive options for everyone.

Some of the favorites that people come for on the breakfast menu include the Chicken Fried Steak and the Firehole French Toast, which is a secret recipe. Of course, you won’t go wrong with eggs or biscuits and gravy, either.

For lunch, there are vegetarian and vegan options available, but the stand out is the Cafe 191 bacon cheeseburger, which is made with beef raised right in Montana. If a burger isn’t your thing, the Lone Peak Turkey Sandwich is also a winner with smoked turkey, bacon, and provolone on thick sourdough bread slices.

Café 191 has a casual dress code, which reflects its laid-back and welcoming atmosphere. Diners are encouraged to dress comfortably, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed meal before or after skiing or hiking in Big Sky.

Cafe 191 Casino

They also have a small casino on premises for those who like to partake in slot machines.  It’s quaint, but it’s there if you have the urge!
