Chilacos Tacos Review

Chilacos Tacos is a quaint Mexican spot located on West Sunrise Boulevard, blending casual dining with fresh, flavorful food. Known for their handmade tortillas, bold taco combinations, and vegetarian-friendly menu, Chilacos has built a loyal following for good reason.

Customer favorites include their birria tacos, chipotle chicken burritos, and crispy fish tacos, paired with sides like street corn (elote) and house-made guac. The atmosphere is upbeat and modern, and the service consistently earns high marks for friendliness and speed.

Whether you’re craving a quick taco fix or a full-on Mexican feast, Chilacos offers a satisfying, fresh-made experience that competes with the best taco joints in South Florida.  Be aware, the parking lot services many businesses and it gets jammed up, which is probably the only reason it took me so long to get here!

I recently ran some errands in the area, and after stopping by Fresh Market, I saw a parking spot open right in front of it and knew right there it was my time to try Chilacos Tacos.

The Chilacos Tacos Experience in Plantation, Florida

Plantation is a city that borders Sunrise. In fact, the two cities zig and zag so much it’s hard to know which one you are in sometimes as the borders aren’t clear cut in my opinion.

From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the aroma of fresh ingredients and sizzling meats, setting the tone for an unforgettable meal. Chilacos combines authentic Mexican recipes with a modern twist, and it’s quickly becoming one of the most talked-about spots in Broward County.

Crowd Favorites at Chilacos Tacos

  • Birria Tacos – Juicy, slow-cooked beef folded in crispy tortillas and served with rich consommé for dipping. These are a must-try and often referred to as the best birria tacos in the area.

  • Carne Asada Tacos – Perfectly grilled steak with bold seasoning and fresh toppings, all tucked into their signature house-made tortillas.

  • Fish Tacos – Lightly battered, crispy, and paired with a tangy slaw that customers rave about.

  • Chipotle Chicken Burrito – Packed with flavor, generous in size, and perfect for anyone who loves a smoky kick.

  • Elote (Mexican Street Corn) – Creamy, cheesy, and bursting with flavor — one of the most beloved sides on the menu.

Vegetarians are also in luck — Chilacos offers dedicated vegetarian options, including grilled veggie tacos and bowls that don’t skimp on flavor.  I ended up getting the Taco Chicken Chipotle along with some elote, and they were AMAZING.  I’ll definitely be back to try their refried beans, one of my favorite Mexican sides. Mostly, I want to compare it to that of Bien Chido which is just down the street.

Summary

There are many good options for Mexican in Plantation, Florida.  In my view, there are more options than Fort Lauderdale’s Mexican food offerings.  That’s quite impressive since Ft Lauderdale is much larger in size and population.  This establishment will be firmly in my rotation when I’m in the mood for authentic Mexican flavors.  I highly recommend it.
