City Oyster and Sushi Bar Review

Fresh seafood, a full sushi bar, and a rotating menu of fresh oysters are what you will experience when you walk through the doors of City Oyster and Sushi Bar in Delray Beach.

Michelle had been bugging me to do new things, so off we headed north for the City Oyster brunch.

Upon walking in, we noticed the oak wood floors provide a beautiful contrast to antique brick/high tin ceilings, and I couldn’t wait to sit down and check out the specialty beers and the premier wine selections. I wasn’t sure which was the best choice for me, and ended up going with an espresso martini, but I did note that the restaurant was recognized by Wine Spectator.  It looks like a great place for happy hour as well as they have a great rotating craft beer selection.

Located on Atlantic Avenue in Delray’s exciting shopping and dining district, the great atmosphere was definitely pulling me in. Then I saw the large and rotating menu of wine, beer, cocktails, and more, and I knew I would have a great meal after seeing the East and West coast oysters advertised on the wall. We ended up choosing some from Maine and really liked them.  (Photo further down in this review.)

City Oyster and Sushi Bar Reviews

On Yelp, City Oyster and Sushi Bar has 4/5 stars with almost 900 honest reviews. That’s pretty solid in my book! Most of the positive reviews mentioned the helpful service, the large selection at the bar and restaurant, and the cool and casual vibe. The attentive and knowledgeable servers also play a significant role in enhancing the dining experience.

When I looked at the negative reviews, there were a few mentions of poor service, but most people who commented negatively had something to say about the prices. Honestly, it’s not the cheapest place on the block, but it’s in Delray Beach, right on Atlantic Ave, and the menu is well known for featuring fresh seafood delivered daily. That’s not cheap, either!

The sentiments at TripAdvisor were similar. People love the food, and rated the restaurant highly at 4.2/5. However, the service issues, which I did not experience, and the price seemed to bring in some naysayers. Overall, the quality of the meals and the dining experience make it a popular choice.

City Oyster and Sushi Bar Menu

If you like seafood, you will love the menu here. I chose one of the popular dishes, the Spicy Hamachi Roll, served on a bed of seaweed salad, and my friend and I shared the Oysters Rockefeller, which paired perfectly with a glass of white wine. The other person in our party got the Maine Lobster Roll, filled with claw meat, which was also mentioned frequently on Yelp. The menu is mostly seafood, but there are also steaks, salads, pasta, and burgers. Don’t skip the dessert, either. City Oyster and Sushi Bar has a bakery located above the restaurant, and they offer house made desserts, pies, bread, crackers, and pasta they day I was there. and the pies looked amazing…I couldn’t say no to the Vanilla Bean Creme Brûlée with whipped cream, though. We finished our meal completely satisfied, already planning our next visit.

I started brunch with a classic Espresso Martini.

City Oyster and Sushi Bar Dress Code

This is a casual place and the dress code reflects that. You don’t need to dress to the nines. Jeans and a button down, a sun dress, or even shorts and a t-shirt are all good here. Also, it seemed family friendly.
