Getting into the Bahamas from the United States is not going to be as difficult as you might think. And this is definitely a good thing because many Americans visit this beautiful country every year to enjoy a stunning tropical holiday.
It only makes sense that the Bahamas would not make it difficult to enter into the country. This definitely will help improve their tourism because not everyone has a valid passport and some people would prefer to avoid getting one if possible.

Is a Passport Really Necessary for the Bahamas?
In all honesty, it is not necessary to have a passport in order to get into the Bahamas, just like a passport is not needed to get into Puerto Rico. Although it is certainly an acceptable form of ID to use to get into the country.
As a matter of fact, US citizens can bring a number of different forms of identification and many of them will be acceptable.

Getting Back into the United States from the Bahamas
Believe it or not, it actually gets trickier getting back into the United States when you are coming from the Bahamas.
Out of all of the possibilities mentioned above, the only one that will work to get you back in to the country via airplane is to have a valid US passport. Without a valid US passport, it will be incredibly difficult for you to gain entry into the country.
If you are coming back in the US via a cruise, then the passport book, passport card, and enhanced driver’s license are all acceptable forms of ID.
