Flamingo Marina Costa Rica

The recently renovated and revamped Flamingo Marina, also known by the name of the Marina Flamingo, is located int eh Playa Flamingo and Portrero area of Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

Over six years of construction led to the new look marina, which was opened originally in the 1970’s and shut down in 2004.  In 2007, the $50 million newly created marina was planned and it’s state of the art.  I’ll share with you all of the things to know about using this marina which is just minutes from the prestigious Flamingo Beach in Costa Rica.

Featuring 92 wet slips and a planned expansion to double that number over time, you’ll find dining, shopping, residences, and rental options.  There’s also a full immigration and customs office.

The newest marina in the country, this full service, luxurious venue can fit vessels of all sizes.  You can get your yacht serviced right on premises as well as use the high speed fuel dock to refuel.

Flamingo Marina and the area in general has always been synonymous with luxury living and they spared no expense here in adding restaurants, places to stay, and even a VIP Club that has every amenity you could imagine.  The outdoor bar has a pool if you want to unwind in luxury as well.

Retail therapy is just steps away in the Marina Flamingo Village.  We’ve had drinks and dined at JP’s Bar & Grill directly across the street from the new accommodations and the view of the marina is spectacular.  Those seeking a more upscale dinner can visit Angelina’s just steps away.

The marina is over 40 acres of land and sea and offers access to the best beaches in Guanacaste where you’ll be able to enjoy activities like sport fishing, swimming, sailing, water sports, or just laying in the white sand.  The tree-lined beach in Flamingo makes it one of the most desirable beaches in Costa Rica.

The New Flamingo Marina Location

You’ll find this marina sandwiched between Playa Portrero and Playa Flamingo.  Serving the North Pacific of Costa Rica all the way down to the Southern tip of Guanacaste, it covers a range that includes Playa del Coco to the north end through Santa Teresa and Malpais to the south.  Located just 75 minutes north is the Papagayo Marina, another modern masterpiece, and 4.5 hours south is the Los Suenos Marina in Playa Herradura, giving it a central location between the two other major marinas in Costa Rica.

Sustainability

Building anything in Costa Rica has it’s difficulties due to the extreme biodiversity the country aims to maintain.  The new Flamingo Marina has made a commitment social and environmental responsibility in order to maintain the ecotourism the country thrives on.  There’s a 24/7 environmental watch on top of all the other environmental measures the facility takes on.

Thanks to this extreme care, the new Flamingo Marina was given the Ecological Blue flag, a prestigious nod in Costa Rica, for it’s sustainable construction and careful planning.  This includes proper use of natural resources, waste management procedures, and more.

The marina has created almost 300 jobs and brings a lot of new tourism to the already booming area.

Flamingo Marina Amenities

The world class facility offers a lot more than the slips and dry boat storage.  A heliport is there for those who prefer to travel by chopper.  Rentals and suites are available for those looking to stay near by.  There’s also restroom, shower, and laundry facilities in the Marina Village.

There’s even an on-site fish cleaning station!

The marina is home to many new businesses, including a law firm, a health and wellness shop, numerous restaurants, a boat and marine supply company, and like every Costa Rica beach town, real estate offices.

When they broke ground in 2019, home values in the area started to rise in the already expensive areas of Playa Flamingo and Playa Portrero.  Rightfully so!  With so much new activity coming into the area, it makes sense that many people will want to live, work, and play in the area.  It’s one of the most gorgeous ares of the country and was one of the first places foreign investors settled into when Costa Rica became a place for offshore living.

Costa Rica is also a hot spot for digital nomads who work remotely and like to enjoy new scenery.
