The Cayman Islands are a gorgeous destination, which I have visited many times. There is nothing quite like exploring Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman or diving under the waves to see the wondrous lives that live in the sea.
Keep in mind, however, that the Cayman Islands can be expensive, especially if you go during the high season, and even a cheaper option can feel like you are paying high prices. Some people think that Cayman Islands hostels are the answer here, and that staying at a hostel in George Town, on Grand Cayman, is a good option. Is it, though? Let’s take a look!
Where are the Hostels in the Cayman Islands?
Well, I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is that there is an option for those who want to stay in a hostel on Grand Cayman, but the bad news is…there is only one!
Major Rod’s Hostel, which is in George Town, is the only hostel you will find on Grand Cayman. Additionally, it’s not that cheap. Really, Grand Cayman, and the Cayman Islands in general, should be considered a luxury location. When you think of it that way, the prices of lodging might not seem that bad!
If you stay at Major Rod’s, you will be right by the ocean, which is a nice perk, and you can sit and watch the cruise ships come in. Additionally, it has amenities like free wifi, optional private rooms with a bathroom, access to hot water, a shared lounge, tropical garden area, air conditioning, and fans.
More About Major Rod’s Hostel
When you check into Major Rod’s, you will get a clean bed linen, and access to extremely helpful staff. There is no restaurant on location, but since it’s on the waterfront, there are bars, places to eat, and things to do very close. The famed Seven Mile Beach is less than 10 minutes away by car, and getting access to transportation is easy.
Check in at Major Rod’s is at 2pm, and they check out guests by 11am. Since you can get a private room, it is a popular hostel option for those looking for the experience of this type of accommodation. Through it’s not the Ritz Carlton, you will find great reviews from those who have stayed there. Though it’s true that there is no breakfast served nor restaurants on site, the price for local places nearby is affordable for this type of area.
Since the Cayman Islands aren’t well-known for cheap accommodation, you may not save a lot of money by choosing Major Rod’s, but it’s likely going to be more affordable than other options like the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort, Seven Mile Beach Resort, the Westin Grand Cayman, or the Kimpton Seafire Resort. At a hotel or resort, you tend to get more amenities, but the experience of a hostel like Major Rod’s is pretty cool, too.

Is Major Rod’s One of the Best Hostels?
Considering it is the only hostel on Grand Cayman, I can say sure — Major Rod’s is the best hostel. However, you might find special offers or discounts at certain times of the year for hotels in the area, too. I will say that wherever you stay, you will have an amazing time because Grand Cayman is a magical and stunning place to visit.
You’ll have a much easier time finding 5 star hotels in Cayman, just saying.

I went to the Major Rods website, and it was down. So I’m not sure if they are even operational, or if it’s just an online error. They are still listed active on this website, so make sure you do your own due diligence if you are looking at this as an option for accommodations in Grand Cayman.
