The last time I was in Minneapolis, MN, I wanted to relax in a fun place, have some food, get a drink or two, and chill. I wasn’t looking for anything fancy or pretentious; I wanted a good neighborhood bar to get a feel for the area and the people in it.
I found all of this and more on a visit to The 1029 Bar.
Located at 1029 Marshall St NE in Minneapolis, MN, this is the type of place where the outside aesthetics don’t match the enjoyable atmosphere inside. From the exterior, it looks pretty simple and plain, but when you walk inside, everything changes.
From bingo on Tuesday and Saturday to meat raffles every Friday, there seems to always be something going on here. Oh, and if you like karaoke, this is the place to be. The 1029 Bar has karaoke several times a week from Wednesday to Sunday, starting at 9:00 pm.
Don’t wait to enjoy this place. I loved it here, and I recommend it. Plus, when I asked about food, they told me that they are partnered with a seafood-heavy restaurant called the Smack Shack that operates right in the bar!
It was SO good, and after seeing photos of Guy Fieri from “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” visiting this place, I could see why it’s an important part of this neighborhood and why it’s among Minneapolis’ best bars!
Let’s check out some other reviews, too:
The 1029 Bar Reviews
As you might expect, 1029 Bar is featured on major review sites like Yelp and TripAdvisor.
With almost 300 reviews on Yelp, the bar has a solid rating of 4.5/5 stars. People who call this bar home love it, and they can’t stop mentioning the great food, the fun atmosphere, and the schedule of events every day from bingo and karaoke to the meat raffle. If there is one complaint that seems to be mentioned in several reviews, it’s that service can be a bit slow. I didn’t have that issue, but I was there pretty early in the evening, so it wasn’t quite prime time for orders.
On TripAdvisor, there is a similar story. The 1029 Bar has a rating of 4.3/5 stars. Again, there are mostly great things to say about this bar, but the main issue is the time it takes for service. It should be noted that management did not respond to any of these reviews.
The 1029 Bar Dress Code
As you might expect, there is no crazy dress code at The 1029 Bar. It’s a neighborhood dive bar that seems to attract a slightly hipster crowd, but when I was there, it just seemed very “Minneapolis” to me. Jeans, sweaters, flannels, beanies…you get the picture. Oh, there is also a dog-friendly patio here, so bring a sweater if you want to sit outside and it’s cool.

Final Words
There just isn’t really enough to be said about The 1029 Bar. Is it a bar for everyone? No. It’s probably not the place where you will meet with your girlfriends for wine and martinis. But, if you are looking for a chill place to experience the neighborhood with locals, sing karaoke, and join a meat raffle, this is your place. If you go, take photos…especially of the ceiling. Yes, it’s covered in bras.
