V Sattui Winery

We just returned from our trip to California which incluced the Bay Area and Napa Valley. Boy were we glad we got to spend some time in wine country! Today I’ll share with you my V Sattui winery wine tasting experience – one that I consider the ultimate napa valley experience!

We aren’t “winos'” per say, but we do enjoy Napa Valley wine and experiencing new things (like we did visiting breweries in Santa Rosa.)

Located in St. Helena, CA, this winery is surrounded by ancient valley oak trees, pleasant surroundings, and beautifully manicured gardens. Let’s dive right into what you can expect at this sprawling estate!

V Sattui – One of the Great Napa Valley Wineries

The gorgeous entrance!

If I’m being my honest self, there’s no shortage of Napa Valley wineries and this is one of the few that I’ve been to. That said, I welcome recommendations and criticism from any wine snobs in the comments below. With that off my chest, here’s how our experience went.

As we entered the parking lot you can’t help to want this place to be one of your favorite wineries. The architecture on premises is impeccable and makes you feel like you are in Italy.

We visited on a balmy February day and were ready to get out wine tasting on. While the family owned property was going through major construction, there were some areas that weren’t accessible, but that didn’t stop us from doing an indoor tasting in their beautiful location.

For $45 per person we were able to sample 5 wines of our choice. This is a SERIOUS value since the winery host, Bart, was very generous in keeping our glasses full whenever we found a wine that fit our taste. We probably consumed an entire bottle of their $185 cabernet from their cellar, and this led us to purchasing a case of wine to be sent back to Florida.

Well done, Bart!

Sip, dine, and relax on the outdoor picnic tables.

One thing to note is that all of their wine is sold exclusively at their venue. You can’t buy it at Total Wine or any other location. So you’ll have to make it to Helena CA and Napa Valley if you want to get your hands on any of their wine.

While we opted for the indoor tasting, there are picnic grounds and a sprawling campus so you can find your perfect place to enjoy your wine tasting or anything you purchase there.

I found them to have a wide selection of current vintages and limited production wines, as well as a lot of food, including an impressively robust cheese shop. If we were staying an extra few days, we would have loaded up on the cheeses. Having just eaten lunch, we didn’t do any wine pairing with their cheeses, but we’ll do that on our next visit to V. Sattui Winery because we will certainly be back.

In fact, beyond the cheese selections they have a robust gourmet marketplace that has everything from pesto pastas to gourmet sandwiches. In fact, Wine Enthusiast called their marketplace and deli “World Famous.” I’d never heard of it before (Michelle grew up not far from here and had been previously) but it certainly lived up to it’s billing.

Established in 1885, they have many award winning wines. The motto of V. Sattui is “A Napa Valley Tradition,” and they certainly didn’t disappoint us.

One of their sweet rare wines offered is the award winning Madeira. Everything you find here is 100% organically farmed, and V. Sattui is Napa Green certified because of this.

Why is this the Ultimate Napa Valley Experience?

Going back to my earlier comments about the generosity of the pours, I’ll say that I’ve rarely seen such friendly service at a venue that’s interactive. Bart shared with us the organic vineyard practices and educated us on Sattui winery and shared it’s history in wine country. If Napa Valley wine history is your thing, you can’t go wrong here.

I took full advantage of my time in wine country and asked a lot of questions that the staff at V Sattui winery were happy to answer in great detail. Once the construction is completed, we look forward to going back to visit one of their upcoming events and sip the best wine in this Napa Valley destination.

Final Words

Let me close on this: we visited this winery to sip the best wine they made. Mission accomplished! We also left with over $900 in wine that was shipped to our home in Florida. This business knows how to treat people right and it’s the perfect place to start your Napa Valley visit.

I recommend this wine experience to anyone who is visiting Napa Valley. I’ll update this article when we make it back to one of their upcoming events.
