We stopped here for a lunch while staying at the Nekajui and this is a recap of our experience.

Nestled on Marina Papagayo’s pier, Dive Bar offers a relaxing and open-air ambiance that overlooks the yachts, boats, bay, and sand. After exploring Costa Rica’s beaches on your trip, it’s a great place to unwind with family and friends. Plus, it’s quiet enough to focus if you’re on a business trip in the country.
The bartenders offer excellent service, and you can enjoy non-alcoholic beverages or tasty cocktails, such as mango mojitos and jalapeno margaritas.
Tables are set in the sand, and you’ll find wooden swings that offer a tropical and friendly vibe. Likewise, the central bar is covered to provide shade and comfort, but you’ll still see the water views. Bring your flip-flops or slip them off while walking along the beach.

Reviewers on TripAdvisor consistently praise Dive Bar for its scenic setting, warm service, and large portions. Those visiting Costa Rica often say that the bartender makes amazing iced tea, and others mention the high-quality ingredients. Drink prices are slightly expensive, but people frequently share photos that make your mouth water.
With the crew lounge just off the dining area, you’ll be served meals quickly. Plus, the facilities are clean, the atmosphere is relaxing, and the owners know what good food is. Guests simply rave about it. It’s perfect for a couple, parents with kids, and anyone in between.
My Personal Review
This was a nice getaway from the luxury prices we were paying for similar food at the hotel. Nothing against the hotel, but any time you can get a break on those high prices and catch a different vibe, it’s worth taking the risk.
I started off with one of my classic Costa Rican Beers – Bavaria Light. This is similar to a Coors light if you were wondering. Light, cool, refreshing.
Dive Bar Menu
The menu at this restaurant in Costa Rica offers an American-Latin fare lineup. Star dishes include crispy calamari, ceviche, fish and shrimp tacos, burgers, and steak. Whether you show up for lunch or dinner, you’ll have a fun day/night with delicious items. Customers often spend time watching the waves and enjoying beach activities.
One thing you’ll want to see is the “Dive Captain’s Plate,” which features any type of seafood you can think of, including octopus, seabass, prawns, and calamari. There’s also an extensive drink list covering a lot of local wines, craft beers, mojitos, and margaritas.
You’ll likely pick something light so that you can enjoy dessert, which includes tropical sorbet, apple pie, and chocolate brownies.
I urged Michelle to get one of my top ten Costa Rican dishes – chifrijo. It was excellent!
Chifrijo is a base of rice and beans, (gallo pinto), layered with tomatoes, guacamole, and as a protein, fried chicharones. I highly recommend it if you are looking to eat like a local in Costa Rica.
