There are few destinations that capture the wild nightlife in Thailand better than Pattaya Walking Street. The 1-kilometer stretch (a little over half a mile) is filled with neon signs, live music, go go bars, nightclubs, and with the buzz of travelers from around the world, the area rarely has any moment of silence…at least after the sun goes down.

Seafood restaurants, dance clubs, amazing sights and sounds…visiting Pattaya Walking Street is a feast for the senses, and it’s a great place to unwind, have fun, and find some of the best times of your life when visiting Thailand.

I recently visiting Thailand, I tried to log it all in my head, and I want to tell you what I saw here and explain the delights you will find around every corner.

Pattaya Walking Street – When to Visit and How to Get There

Women in Walking Street Pattaya

Walking Street Pattaya is alive every day, but the real energy of the area ramps up after 6pm. Here, cars are not allowed on the roadway after a certain time of day, and pedestrians are free to walk around. Most of the venues here are open well into the night, especially on the weekends. If you do bring a car to this area, there is a parking lot for vehicles at the Bali Hai end.

The entrance to the street begins at the southern end of Beach Road and it goes out to the Bali Hai Pier. You will see some throwback to Pattaya’s fishing industry, which was thriving in the 60s and 70s.

If you are in central Pattaya, you can get a songthaew, which is a shared taxi. If you are coming from Bangkok, you can book a private taxi or you can take a bus, which takes about two hours. This makes it an easy overnight trip to give yourself some variety when visiting Thailand.

What to Do When Visiting Walking Street Pattaya

The main goal of this post is to kind of share my experience and give you some suggestions. Here are some things we did when we were here, and things I would caution against based on my travels…

Check Out a Local Band

In addition to the bright lights, there are a lot of sounds here in Pattaya City, specifically in the form of music from one of the local bands. You will find a ton of bars here with bands playing.

Some of it will be very familiar hits from the US and Europe, but you will also here the latest Thai pop and more sounds of Asia.

Grab a drink and enjoy the music.

Get Something to Eat

If you love food like I do, look past the flashing lights and the bands, and get some food. As you probably suspect by now, there are a lot of seafood places here, but there are also restaurants serving Italian, Indian, BBQ, Mexican…you name it.

Watch the People

If you aren’t a party person, honestly, Pattaya Walking Street has some of the best people watching in the world! Who doesn’t love to just walk around and observe? From soldiers making their presence known to street artists, dancers, and more…you will want to know the story of every person you see.

Take in a Muay Thai Show

Tourists will definitely want to take in a Muay Thai show before leaving Pattaya City. This is a type of Thai boxing that is known for short bouts that are very energetic. It’s also Thailand’s national sport, so you can see these athletes work hard to bring on a victory.

Visit the Bali Hai Pier

If you need a break from the chaos, keep walking and eventually you will reach the Bali Hai Pier. Here, you can watch the boats, feel the sea breezes, and check out the skyline over Pattaya Bay.

What Not to do in Walking Street Pattaya

When you visit Pattaya Walking Street, there are a few things that I want to mention to keep you safe.

Stay Away from the Sex Shows

Walking Street Pattaya
The nightlife scene is unreal – but be careful!

Sex shows and Pattaya Street porn are advertised everywhere, and curiosity might try to get the best of you — however, the majority of these shows are scams and even illegal. No one wants to end up in a Thai prison or losing hundreds or thousands of dollars to a scammer.

Pattaya is actually the largest red light district in Thailand.  Here’s some other notable sex tourism destinations in Bangkok.

However, if you are on the adventurous side (I am) – there is nothing quite like witnessing deviancy you can’t see in most countries!

Keep Money and Valuables Safe

I have been all over the world, and in any crowded city I will give you the same advice; keep your money and valuables safe. Pickpockets love this area and they do target tourists who flash money or other valuables.

Stay Away from Drugs

Drugs are available here, and they are offered. However, Thailand has some of the strongest and most harsh penalties if you carry drugs.

Have Fun, But Keep Your Senses

The lights, the music, and the alcohol flowing can make it easy to get carried away. Have fun, have some drinks, but try to keep your senses. You don’t want to find yourself in an uncomfortable or dangerous situation. Just watch your surroundings and watch where you step.

Changes Coming to Pattaya’s Walking Street

Tourism is evolving, and Pattaya City officials are currently working on changing the area of Walking Street a bit. There are plans to modernize, improve safety, and offer more family-friendly options.

Other Things to do in Pattaya and South Pattaya

When you’re ready to explore beyond Walking Street, Pattaya offers plenty to see and do:

  • Visit Sanctuary of Truth: A breathtaking wooden temple showcasing intricate carvings.
  • Explore Coral Island (Koh Larn): Just a short ferry ride from Bal Hai Pier.
  • Relax at Jomtien Beach: A more peaceful stretch ideal for swimming and sunbathing.
  • Shop at Pattaya Floating Market: A cultural gem for souvenirs and Thai snacks.

Have Fun, Be Safe, Visit Walking Street in Pattaya City

We loved visiting Pattaya Walking Street, and definitely recommend it. It’s a place where you can find all types of restaurants, night life, services, and more. We were very content to hang out here, and explore the area. There were a couple of closed businesses, but overall, everything was open and most people we saw continued to party well into the night when we were ready for bed.

If you do visit this area, have a lot of fun, keep your safety in mind, and enjoy this fascinating place.
