Scissorbills Saloon Review

As someone who travels, over the years, I have learned one thing — when in doubt and looking for a great local restaurant, go where all the locals go.

If you are in Big Sky, MT, and looking for a busy bar with a lovely ambiance and fantastic food, Scissorbills Saloon is the place to be. There are only a couple privately owned restaurants in the area, and Scissorbills, or Scissor Bills, at Big Sky Resort’s Mountain Village, is one of them. You can literally ski right in, which makes it a perfect ski resort stop, and with a cozy atmosphere and an extensive list of craft microbrews, this is where the locals eat.

As soon as I arrived, I had a flashback to that movie, “Hot Tub Time Machine,” and once I checked out the specialty drink menu and heard about the world-famous white Russians, I was totally hooked. I ate one of their excellent burgers with a side of crispy tater tots, and overall, I had a really nice visit on a busy Sunday. Would I recommend Scissorbills? Yes. Do others? Let’s find out.

Scissorbills Saloon Reviews

When we look at some of the best review sites, we can see that those like TripAdvisor, LLC, have a rating of 4.1/5. Most of the guests praise Scissorbills for the friendly staff, fun après-ski atmosphere, and delicious food. Since it’s so close to the slopes, it’s pretty busy all winter long. One TripAdvisor member praises the restaurant for it’s vegetarian options, and specifically raved over the great black bean burger. TripAdvisor performs checks on restaurants, too, so I tend to trust these reviews.

Users on Yelp rated the restaurant a bit lower with a score of 3.3/5 stars. Overall, the Yelp reviewers praise the restaurant for the sports tuned TVs, good beer selection, and hand pattied burger options. However, there are more reports here on slow service, which bring down the scores for an overall nice facility and good food.

Scissorbills Saloon Menu

The menu at Scissorbills is classic American pub grub, and it has a Montana twist. Some of the popular dishes include the wings and loaded nachos as starters, and the Reuben, Cheeseburger, and Cubano as main dishes. Again, there is a full selection of great beer choices, and if you have young kids, there is a kids menu.

The menu is small and heavy on sandwiches, but there are a couple of salads, too.

Scissorbills Saloon Dress Code

Scissorbills Saloon has a casual dress code. This is a laid-back, mountain-town atmosphere with nothing pretentious. Guests were there coming from Lone Peak in ski suits and hiking boots, and when I was there, I didn’t see anyone overly dressed up. Mostly just people in their ski clothes taking photos for Facebook. There were also places to park a bike, so in warmer weather, you can come in on, too.

Final Words – Scissorbills Big Sky, MT – Good Food & Live Music

Scissorbills Saloon offers a typical Big Sky experience with its convenient ski-in location, hearty pub fare, and vibrant après-ski atmosphere. There is live music Thursday, daily menu specials, and you can literally ski in from Andesite Mountain. In my subjective opinion, I really liked Scissorbills, and even though it’s a local place, I felt welcome in this community.

The business has great sandwiches, fries, a good wine list, liquor and a beer list that goes on forever. Scissor Bills is located in a convenient area near hotels and other lodging, and you can get to the property conveniently. Families are welcome, though it’s busy throughout the season, so keep that in mind. It was pretty noisy and lively, but I had a full belly, delicious meal, and a cold draft beer that whet my whistle for the rest of the day on the bunny hill.
