When it comes to dining out in Minneapolis, the North Loop neighborhood is a food lover’s paradise. Having grown up in the Twin Cities, I always look forward to coming home to Minnesota and hitting up my favorite spots.
The North Loop is home to an eclectic mix of eateries, ranging from a gourmet burger for lunch, fresh sushi for dinner, or a farm-to-table experience – there really is something for everyone.
What I love most about the North Loop is its vibrant energy. It’s not just about the food; it’s the whole experience. The ambiance of these restaurants, from cozy nooks to trendy open spaces, adds to the charm. Here’s my list of restaurants, in no particular order, that make this area a foodies paradise.
Restaurants in the North Loop of Minneapolis
Let’s start more on the casual end North Loop restaurants and move into the more fancy restaurants around the Twin Cities top dining destination.
Red Cow
Trying local favorites is a must. When I’m in the mood for a hearty meal, Red Cow’s gourmet burgers hit the spot. Their hand-cut fries paired with house-made sauces always make it a memorable meal. When you are in the mood for burgers and beers, this is your go-to spot.
Nolo’s Kitchen
Another must-visit spot is Nolo’s Kitchen, a casual neighborhood eatery and bar known for its legendary mac and cheese and modern comfort food made with local ingredients. This would classify as “modern American comfort food.”
Tullibee
Seeking out stories behind each restaurant enriches my visits. Tullibee, nestled in the Hewing Hotel, draws inspiration from Minnesota’s Nordic roots. Learning about their farm-to-table approach adds depth to every dish I taste.
In The Loop Coffee
Discovering hidden gems is always exciting. I stumbled upon In the Loop Coffee Company, arguably my favorite coffee spot. Their artisanal brews pair perfectly with delightful pastries, making it a cozy nook for relaxation. It’s also a very dog-friendly venue.
The Smack Shack
If you want a bit of a casual coastal vibe, try the Smack Shack! With its vibrant lobster shack feel, this sprawling restaurant and bar gives a New England vibe. They brag that they have the “best lobster roll in the country,” which is a huge flex, and I will say, it does not disappoint!
Parlour Bar
Parlour Bar is another gem, known for its legendary Parlour Burger—a double-patty delight that’s juicy and flavorful. It’s one of those places where every bite gives you a rush of satisfaction and comfort. Each visit feels like a casual, yet top-tier, dining experience. Their downstairs bar is also a great place for craft cocktails.
Upscale Restaurants in the North Loop
At Bar La Grassa, the extensive selection of Italian wines perfectly matches their handmade pasta, with options like a robust Chianti among the many offered in their huge selection.
Offering unique takes on pasta dishes like the Crab Ravioli and the Cavatelli with Rabbit Sugo, this is an unforgettable upscale experience.
Spoon and Stable
Spoon and Stable presents a modern twist on classic French dishes. Their seasonal menu always feels like a special occasion. Owned by Owner and Chef Gavin Kaysem, who has a James Beard award under his belt, the menu focuses on in season Midwest dishes.
Kaiseki Furukawa
For a real culinary treat, check out Kaiseki Furukawa. A form of Japanese cooking that reflects on tea ceremony traditions in Kyoto, Japan, Kaiseki is all the rage. They offer a 10 course tasting for $175 per person and have a very strict cancellation policy, so make sure you are 100% ready to experience this masterpiece!
The North Loop is Also Home to the Best Food Hall in the Twin Cities
The North Loop is home to a variety of food halls and collectives, offering a unique dining experience that’s perfect for food lovers. When you can’t decide on one single restaurant, head to a food hall where you can experience several!
One standout spot is Graze Provisions & Libations, a popular food hall that brings together multiple vendors and bars under one roof. This two floor space offers a range of cuisines and dining experiences, from casual eats to healthy meals, and even two full liquor bars, there is something for everyone here.
Graze is a great place for large groups as you can experiences the best of the metro all under one roof. Or, in the Summer, sit out on their patio and take in the skyline while you eat and drink. The ground floor patio also hosts many events, such as live music, corporate gatherings, and more.
I recommend The Fabled Rooster, Union Hmong Kitchen, and Viva Taco. With all the dining options in the North Loop under one roof, there truly is something for everyone.
Conclusion
There’s a reason North Loop restaurants are considered the top tier when it comes to dining in the Metro area. Whether you want breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Minneapolis offers a unique space,
